Tersegno Shines as Panthers Best Bryant & Stratton

Senior Erin Tersegno (Webster, NY / Webster Thomas) used her blistering pace to score two goals last night, which was enough to push the ACPHS Panthers past the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats 2-1. Overall, Albany now holds a 6-4 record, while the Bobcats dropped to 4-3-1.

The Panthers struggled to create chances in the opening 45 minutes, at half in which they were outshot by the Bobcats 15-7. Astonishingly, nine of Bryant & Stratton's 15 shots were taken by one player: freshman Koemhong Hout. Hout constantly caused problems for the Albany defense, forcing sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Evangelista (Warwick, NY / Warwick Valley High) into three of her five saves and hitting the crossbar in the 23rd minute. The teams would head into the break scoreless.

The Bobcats came out of halftime looking the better team once again, attempting the half's first five shots, including a point blank header by Bryant forward Portia Davis that was caught by Evangelista.

All of ACP's defending was finally worth it in the 67th minute, when senior midfielder Cora Bruno (Margaretville, NY / Margaretville Central) clipped the ball in behind the Bobcat defense for her fellow senior Tersegno to chase down the right wing. Hout, sprinting back to cover her back line, took down Tersegno in the box to stop the chance, resulting in a penalty for the Panthers. The Panther star stepped up to take the spot kick herself, burying the ball into the bottom left-hand corner for her sixth goal of the year.

The Panthers played much more confidently thereafter, still conceding possession but remaining stalwart at the back. Tersegno grabbed a second goal in the 86th minute once again on a Panther counterattack, which turned out to be vital as ACPHS conceded with just 30 seconds remaining to make the final score 2-1. Overall, Evangleista made 12 saves on 29 shots from the Bobcats, which was 16 more attempts than the Panthers took.

Albany will look to keep up their winning ways this Sunday, October 14th, when they travel to face The King's College at 2:30pm. With a win, ACPHS will secure the number one seed in the 2018 HVIAC Women's Soccer Tournament.
