Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Tim Maisonet | Sports Information Director

Panthers Shutout Vaughn Warriors 8-0

The ACPHS Men's Soccer team ran rampant on Saturday, scoring six second-half goals on their way to 8-0 victory over the Vaughn College Warriors. After the win, ACPHS improved to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the HVIAC, while Vaughn fell to 1-5 in the league and 4-5 overall.

The Panthers were stymied for much of the first half, created plenty of chances but not finding any luck in front of goal until the 30th minute, when junior captain Noah Keith (Rotterdam, NY / CBA) got the Panthers on the board. The goal was a team-effort, starting with a fine defensive play by junior Edward Ahanmisi (Vancouver, BC / Bodwell High) at the other end of the field. After gaining possession, Ahanmisi found freshman Michel Abdelmalek (Guilderland, NY / Guilderland High School) who in turn released senior Reid Laplante (Pharmacy PhD / Chateaugay, NY / Chateaugay Central High School) down the right wing. It was a captain-to-captain after that, as LaPlante delivered a perfectly-weighted pass to Keith comfortably put the Panthers in front with a stinging effort. Both Abdelmalek and LaPlante would get on the scoresheet later in the game, scoring the Panthers' second and third goals in the 43rd and 51st minutes respectively.

After LaPlante put Albany up 3-0 early in the second half, the floodgates opened up as the Panthers could do no wrong in the offensive third of the field. Keith bagged a 2nd goal in the 60th minutes, followed by two from junior forward Austin Myers (Morrisonville, NY / Saranac High) within the next ten minutes. Vaughn was unlucky to concede an own goal in the 70th minute, but by then the result was already decided. Freshman Josh Barlow (Clifton Park, NY /Shenendehowa, NY) finished the scoring in the 78th minute with his second of the year, and the Panthers saw the game out from there. ACPHS attempted 43 shots on the day, compared to just seven for the Warriors.

The Panthers had an equally as dominating performance on Sunday, besting the Culinary Institute of America Steels 6-0. The write-up for that contest can be found on the ACPHS athletics website.
