Scoring wasn't hard to come by on Sunday, as the ACPHS Panthers put nine goals past the Pratt Institute Cannoneers to win 9-0. ACPHS is now 3-3 overall, while the Cannoneers are still searching for their first win at 0-7-1.
ACPHS scored early and often in this one with senior star
Katie Benson (Clifton Park/ Shenendehowa) finishing the game with three goals and five assists to extend her season totals to ten and seven, which both lead the team. Senior
Cora Bruno (Margaretville, NY / Margaretville Central) assisted on Benson's first, sending a long ball past the Cannoneer defense that Benson ran down and slotted home to give the Panthers the lead in the ninth minute. They extended that lead to three before the opening 45 minutes was up, with goals from senior
Molly Mancini (Galway, NY / Galway) and sophomore
Elizabeth D'amato-Neff (Niskayuna, NY / Niskayuna) both coming off of assists from Benson.
ACPHS went on a tear following the break, scoring six goals to add to their highest total in a game in this season. Benson scored in the 51
st and 77
th minute, with a goal from Mancini which she assisted on in between. The next two Panther goals came from Panthers who had yet to score this season: sophomore
Emily D'abrosca (Cumberland, RI / Mount St Charles Academy) and junior
Sydney Rule (Ballston Spa, NY / Ballston Spa). Mancini grabbed the game's final goal, rounding out a hat-trick of her own.
In total, ACPHS attempted 32 shots compared to just three for Pratt. Sophomore goalie
Arica Tehan (New Hartford, NY / New Hartford) got the start and played 45 minutes, making two saves and earning her first win of the year.
