ACPHS Men's Soccer could do no wrong on Saturday, beating the NHTI Lynx 6-0 to improve their overall record to 5-3 and drop New Hampshire to 4-3-2.
Albany's first goal of the afternoon came from freshman
Josh Barlow (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa) in the 23
rd minute, when it looked like the midfielder attempted to put a cross into the box that somehow floated over Lynx goalie Andre Sturgeon into the back of the net. With the Panthers up 1-0, NHTI pressed forward for an equalizer, leaving themselves shorthanded on defense. This gamble cost them as they were hit on the counterattack not once but twice by junior
Austin Myers (Morrisonville, NY / Saranac High).
ACPHS took a 3-0 advantage into the break, and were able to double that lead before the 2
nd 45 minutes was up. The 4
th goal was the best of the bunch, and in came in the 59
th minute when freshman phenom
Anes Bostandzic (Utica, NY / Proctor High School) picked up a loose ball in the NHTI box and drilled a right-footed shot into the top left corner to lock up the win for Albany. Bostandzic got a 2
nd goal in the 66
th minute, with freshman
Michel Abdelmalek (Guilderland, NY / Guilderland High School) scoring his first collegiate goal just before that. Freshman
Ryan Hobson (Red Hook, NY / Red Hook High School) played all 90 minutes and made just one save to improve his record to 4-2 on the season.
Men's soccer will resume conference play today, September 30
th, when they travel to take on the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels at 1:30 PM.
