The ACPHS Men's Soccer team suffered a tough loss on Thursday night, dropping a midweek matchup with the Berkeley College (NJ) Knights 2-1. The loss moved the Panthers' overall record to 5-7.
The first few chances of the game all fell to Albany, but it was the Knights who edged in front in the 14
th minute. Forward Sebastian Cannizzo curled in a corner kick that found the head of Carlos Goncalves, who powered his effort past sophomore goalie
Ryan Hobson for the early lead.
ACPHS responded in the 27
th minute with a well-worked move. Sophomore
Chuck Middleton picked up the ball at midfield and beat one defender before finding senior midfielder
Noah Keith. Keith, as he so often does, rolled a pass through the Berkeley defense that found fellow senior
Austin Myers who netted his sixth goal of the season to tie the game at one.
The game's final goal came in the 36
th minute, and it was a stunner. Berkeley's Marcos Hidalgo ripped a shot from about 20 yards out that slammed into the crossbar and straight down into the net. The Panthers did come out firing in the second half and created a few good chances, but they were unable to find an equalizer. In the end, they outshot the Knights 20-16.
Next up for ACPHS is a trip to New Hampshire this Saturday, where they'll take on NHTI at 1pm.
