Women's Soccer finished up their conference regular season on Sunday, beating the King's College Lady Lions 7-1. ACPHS now stands at 4-3-2 overall and are locked in as the 2
nd seed in the 2019 HVIAC Tournament at 2-1.
Both teams seemed to cancel each other out in the early going, but the story of the game came in the final 15 minutes of the first half when Albany scored three goals to put the game out of reach before the break. It all started in the 32
nd minute, when freshman phenom
Mayle Lupia-Eannace latched onto a long pass from junior defender
Emily Linehan behind the Lions defense. The forward has made a habit of scoring this season, and this game was no different, as she slotted home for her 12
th of the year.
Next to get on the score sheet was freshman
Shannon Donnelly, who netted her third of the year after playing a slick one-two with her fellow underclassman Lupia-Eannace. The half's scoring was wrapped up just a minute later, when junior
Emily D'Abrosca confidently tucked away a penalty kick for her sixth goal of the season. This goal also kept her penalty kick record perfect, as she now stands at two attempts, two goals.
Both Donnelly and Lupia-Eannace bagged their second goals of the game in the opening nine minutes of the second half, effectively icing the game for Albany. Corinne Boonstra got a goal back for King's in the 71
st minute, but the Panthers quickly responded with goals from
Cory Parker and
Juliette Beatty to complete the scoring. In total, the Panthers outshot the Lions 37-2. Junior goalkeeper
Gabriella Evangelista only made one save but improved her season record to 3-3-2.
Albany will close their season with a pair of non-conference matchups before they host the conference tourney. Next up is a trip to NHTI on Saturday, October 19
th at 1:00 PM.
