Senior midfielder
Noah Keith capped off a five-goal thriller with a game-winning goal in the 105
th minute to give the ACPHS Panthers a 3-2 win over crosstown rivals Bryant & Stratton (Albany). The Panthers are now 3-5 overall.
Albany controlled possession for large portions of this game, and turned that possession into a 1-0 lead in the 13
th minute. Freshman midfielder
Alex Rivera recorded his first collegiate assist when he put in a deep cross from just inside the opposition half that found the head of his opposite midfielder, sophomore
Alex Bleau. Bleau rose high over a Bryant defender and powered a header past the keeper for his first goal of the season.
ACPHS held a one-goal advantage until the 33
rd minute when a mix-up at the back allowed Bryant & Stratton back into the game. The Panther backline attempted to pass the ball back to sophomore goalkeeper
Ryan Hobson, but the pass was intercepted by Bobcat forward Kyle Lamb who fired a shot past Hobson to knot the score at one.
The Panthers regained the lead in the 40
th minute thanks to a spectacular solo effort from junior Zach Lanoue. The forward stole the ball in the offensive third and pressed up the left wing before cutting inside and unleashing a right-footed missile into the top corner. It was Lanoue's first of the season, and it sent the ACP into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
The second half was a frustrating one for the Panthers, as they had plenty of opportunities to put the game away but were unable to capitalize on them. This came back to bite them in the 89
th minute, when Bryant defender Isaiah Pickney tied the score. The Bobcats put a corner kick in the box that bounced around and found Pickney, who drove his shot over Hobson's head to send the game to overtime.
Following a scoreless 1
st overtime, ACPHS found a way to send the fans home happy in the 105
th minute through
Noah Keith. The former goal scorer Lanoue looked for his second of the day after he found himself in behind the Bobcat defense, but his shot was saved by Bryant keeper Nate Getman. In the right place at the right time, Keith pounced on the ensuing rebound and slid the ball into the vacated net before being mobbed by his teammates. It was Keith's team-leading fourth goal, and Lanoue's first assist of the season.
The win was more than deserved for ACPHS, as they outshot Bryant & Stratton 27-13 and earned 16 corner kicks throughout the contest. Hobson made four saves and played all 104 minutes.
The Panthers will be back in action this Friday, October 4th, when they host Central Maine Community College at 7:00pm. Live video for the game will be streamed from the ACPHS Athletics Facebook page.
