The ACPHS Men's Soccer team kicked off their 2019 season with a bang on Sunday, besting the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves 4-3. The Panthers will know what it's like to be 1-0 on the year, as they will finish the 2010's decade without losing a single opening-season game.
Albany's youth and experience were both on display early in the contest, as senior forward
Austin Myers netted twice in the opening 12 minutes off of passes from freshman midfielder
Gavin Carvey. The Seawolves were able to grab a goal back in the 21
st minute through Alvaro Coto, but the Panthers would head into the break up 2-1.
The Panthers would keep up the offense in the second half, as
Noah Keith scored twice, once on a penalty kick, to tie Myers for the early-season lead in goals. Both of his goals were canceled out by goals from SMCC's Mohamed Matan, one coming in the 80
th minute to push the score to 4-3. Albany saw out the game from their though, as they did not allow the Seawolves to attempt another shot.
As for the final stats, ACP attempted 19 shots compared to Maine's 14, but actually had one of those attempts go on goal (8-7). There were also three yellow cards in the game to go along with 16 combined fouls. Albany's
Ryan Hobson played all 90 minutes in goal, making five saves in his first win of the year.
ACPHS is back at it this Saturday September 7
th, when they travel to take on the SUNY Delhi Broncos at 1:00 PM.
