Albany, N.Y. - Four goals from three different Panthers secured a massive win and clean sheet against NHTI on Saturday for the ACPHS men.
On senior night, ACPHS perhaps put together their best performance of the season. A brace from
Chuck Middleton (Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse High School) and goals from
Michel Abdelmalek (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland High School) and
Anes Bostandzic (Utica, N.Y. / Proctor High School) secured an easy win for the Panthers in which they outshot NHTI 34-9. Abdelmalek's goal was his first of the season and it was only fitting that it came on a night in which he was one of five celebrated seniors.
His goal was the first of the day, a beautiful strike from the left side of the 18 yard box that bent perfectly over the leaping goalkeeper and into the back of the net. That goal, coming 20 minutes into the first half, gave ACPHS all the momentum they needed to add three more to the scoreline before the end of the match. Even if they hadn't, the Panthers defense didn't look interested in conceding any goals this afternoon.
The other four seniors tributed pre-game: goalkeeper
Ryan Hobson (Red Hook, N.Y. / Red Hook High School),
Alex Bleau (Castleton, N.Y. / Maple Hill High School),
Zachary Lanoue (Troy, N.Y. / Averill Park High School), and
Blake Porter (Fort Ann, N.Y. / Fort Ann Central), all of whom enjoyed solid performances up and down the pitch in the Panthers eighth win of the season.
ACPHS now sits at 8-4 (4-0), ranked in the top 10 of the USCAA and sitting lonely at the top of their conference. On Sunday, the Panthers will look to clinch first place in Yankee Small College Conference Tournament with a trip to Paul Smiths College. ACPHS will be heading into the game red hot.
"Our defense is sound. Our offense is firing on all cylinders. We're finally healthy - our goal is to win the league." said senior captain Hobson after his senior night game.
With so much on the line, the Panthers must remain focused. The good news now, is that for the first time this season, ACPHS is 100% healthy.
"We are healthy finally." said Coach
John Adeseko. "When we're healthy, guys have fun. They play in their natural positions - we get guys in and out and better rested for games like tomorrow."
Adeseko was thrilled to see the style of football that has worked so well for his side lately. For the third game in succession, the Panthers have been able to string together some very beautifully worked goals.
Now, ACPHS will look to maintain their perfect record in October. A trip to Paul Smiths is all that lays between ACPHS and a first round bye in the YSCC Tournament.
