Albany, N.Y. - Five more goals and a clean sheet made for a pretty flawless senior night for the ACPHS Womens Soccer team on Saturday. In what was a highly anticipated game against 6th ranked NHTI, the Panthers made sure there was no doubt in why they are the higher ranked team.
ACPHS, ranked #2 in the USCAA, got the fun started early when
Mayle Lupia-Eannace (Barneveld, N.Y. / Holland Patent High School) played a perfectly weighted ball to forward
Julia Roemer (Latham, N.Y. / Shaker High School) who made no mistake when passing the ball into the left corner of the net. Roemer, nearly 20 minutes later, beat her defender to lay a cross perfectly to one of four celebrated seniors on the day,
Emily D'Abrosca (Cumberland, R.I. / Mount St. Charles Academy). The two weren't finished there.
In the Second half, Roemer would score again on a brilliant solo run before setting up D'Abrosca for the second time just minutes later. At 4-0,
Jett Beatty (Bennington, VT / Mt. Anthony Union HS), who had missed a majority of this season due to concussion protocol, scored just seconds after entering the game. With so many chances and very little conceded, it was just another dominating performance from the entire Panthers attack, back four and midfield.
The team payed homage to four seniors Saturday, all of whom have played massive roles for the Panthers over the course of their careers, but especially this season.
Emily Linehan (Massapequa, N.Y. / Plainedge High School),
Sam Gibbs (Alexander, N.Y. / Alexander Central), and goalkeeper
Gabriella Evangelista (Warwick, N.Y. / Warwick Valley High School) all joined D'Abrosca in celebrating long, successful careers at ACPHS.
The four are far from done this season though, and will look to regroup quickly as the side travels to Paul Smiths College tomorrow for a clash with the #1 ranked Bobcats.
"What sets this team apart is our depth." said head coach
Jonathan Woodrow when asked about his teams strengths ahead of tomorrows battle.
"Consistency is what we preach, it even reaches me - we focus on one game. We train the same way." said Woodrow.
The Panthers will try to make it 13 tomorrow, and the Bobcats will attempt to slow down the USCAA's fiercest attack.
