Albany, N.Y. - The ACPHS Mens Soccer Team improved to 4-2 (2-0) this weekend after earning a huge 1-0 conference win at Central Maine Community College. The only goal came early in the second half when freshman midfielder
Sam Rowley (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) slotted home his second goal of the season.
"Tough game tonight." Head Coach
John Adeseko said. "We were able to hang on for a difficult win – we were able to build a wall a play prevent defense the last 25 minutes and we held on for the win".
With possession being split nearly equal, the Panthers were relieved to have gotten their goal having outshot Central Maine 12-2 in the first half. Mustangs goalkeeper Dido Tshimanga Lumu (Johannesburg, South Africa) was forced into making nine total saves, eight of which came in that first half.
CMCC pushed for an equalizer, but a hard working ACPHS defense and three second half saves by Senior goalkeeper
Ryan Hobson (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) secured the clean sheet and victory for the visiting side. Adeseko was happy to see work on the training ground translate.
"Ball movement and player movement is something I have been stressing all season and finally it is starting to show".
After a dominating performance against Vermont Tech., ACPHS had to flip the script to show that they can grind out more physical affairs. The Panthers, now 2-0 in conference will look to maintain momentum as the season really begins to take shape.
"They are definitely tired tonight." Adeseko concluded.
"I am very proud of the way they fought. This was a conference game, so the win is huge. We intend to win as many as we can".
Up next is Springfield Tech, in Albany on September 23rd at 6 PM.
