ACPHS Men's Soccer moved to the top of the YSCC on Saturday, besting the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves 1-0 in Albany. The win keeps the Panthers unbeaten in the conference at 3-0, and moves them to 5-2 overall.
The defining moment of the game came in the 21
st minute, when senior midfielder
Chuck Middleton (Syracuse, NY / Cicero-North Syracuse High School) threaded a pass past the SMCC back line to put freshman forward
Sahil Arora (Waterford, NY / Shenendehowa High School) through on goal. Arora stayed calm and attempted to round Seawolves keeper Joshua Nagle, but he never got the chance as Nagle clipped his ankles giving the Panthers a penalty kick. Having won the penalty, it was Arora stepped up and dispatched it, scoring his first collegiate goal and giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. SMCC would pile on the pressure from there, but were never able to beat Albany's rock-solid defense. Senior goalkeeper
Ryan Hobson (Red Hook, NY / Red Hook High School) made six saves, five of which came in the second half.
The Panthers return to non-conference action tomorrow when they host Fulton Montgomery Community College at 12pm. Live video will provided here at acphsathletics.com.
