Box Score Amherst, M.A. – The ACPHS women's soccer team improved to (6-1-2) after dismantling Hampshire College 8-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Today was a massive win for this group of girls; as playoffs approach, the Panthers want to have all the momentum they can for that first game. ACPHS played the first half like the last game's result bothered them, putting up five first-period goals.
Julia Roemer (Latham, N.Y) had four goals on the day, putting Roemer at twenty three total for the season – an amount only a few players can think of achieving. All season long, Roemer has proved to be always the most lethal weapon on the field; she will look to keep this hot streak riding high heading into the postseason. Isabella Mancini (Galway, N.Y.) picked up her seventh season goal after a breakaway score.
In the second half, ACPHS picked up right where they left off – scoring the final three goals in numerous ways. Scorer and extraordinary contributor Mayle Lupia-Eannace (Barneveld, N.Y.) chalked up two goals of her own this afternoon. Eannace is glad to get some offensive confidence back before the end of the regular season after not scoring since Sep. 18. Midfielder Shannon Donnelly (Bethlehem, N.Y.) completed the shutout with her own goal, Donnelly's fourth of the season.
After the game, Coach Jonathan Woodrow shared his thoughts: "It feels good. Even if it's not the same level of competition that we are used to seeing, it feels good for our morale and confidence, giving us some good mental space heading into a match with NHTI. We are definitely where we want to be. Consistency, focus, and training is the key to our success."
The Panthers will look to continue their winning ways Saturday, Oct. 15, when they travel to take on YSCC rival New Hampshire Technical Institute.
