Concord, N.H. - Saturday afternoon, the ACPHS men's soccer team (7-4-1) advanced to the YSCC championship game after beating Paul Smith's College 5-1.
First-period breakdown
Senior Anes Bostandzic (Utica, N.Y.) scored an immaculate header at the 5:43 mark, giving his team the momentum they needed early on. ACPHS did not hesitate to put up more points, earning a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the match. Midfielder Sahil Arora (Waterford, N.Y.) sunk a breakaway shot into the left corner of the net. As for their defense, the Panthers kept the Bobcats scoreless by not allowing them to maintain possession of the ball.
Second-period recap
ACPHS picked up right where they left off. At the 76:56 mark – team captain Charles Middleton (Syracuse, N.Y.) kicked the ball right over the goalie's head, giving his team the 3-0 lead. Bostandzic earned his second goal of the afternoon with 10 minutes remaining. Finally, Gavin Carvey (Cato, N.Y.) put up the finishing touches, extending the lead to four with three minutes left to play.
Who stood out?
All players contributed to this dominant performance. However, the player who impressed the most was Bostandzic. Bostandzic has proved he is a lethal offensive weapon from wherever, and he is a great vocal leader for this squad.
What was said after the game?
Coach John Adeseko shared his judgment of today's match, "It was win or go home today, and that has not changed. We want to go to nationals. We need to win two more games to get there, so one down and two to go.
When do they play next?
Sunday, Oct. 30, the Panthers will try and complete the mission they have been working towards since August when they face Central Maine Community College in the YSCC championship game.
