Women's soccer suffers heartbreaking loss in YSCC semifinals

Box Score

Concord, N.H. – The ACPHS women's soccer team (6-3-2) lost 1-1 in double overtime against New Hampshire Technical Institute Saturday afternoon.

First-period breakdown

It seemed as if the Panthers were destined to win right after the kickoff. Freshman Payge Demaio (Roxbury, N.Y.) earned her first goal of the season 50 seconds into the match, sinking a beautiful shot from 25 feet out. ACPHS remained scoreless; however, they held NHTI to zero points this half – something they failed to do in their last outing.

Second-period recap

Coming out of the locker room, things took a turn for the worse. Kallee Selby scored the first goal for NHTI 30 seconds into the half after a defensive breakdown by the Panthers. Both teams failed to score any more points in the remainder of the match – causing a need for double overtime.

During ACPHS' five penalty kicks, Shannon Donnelly (Bethlehem, N.Y.), Mayle Lupia-Eannace (Barneveld, N.Y.), and Emily Sager (Poughquag, N.Y.) all delivered. Unfortunately, NHTI scored on four of their shots – sending the Panthers back home.

What was said after the Game?

Following today's affair, Coach Jonathan Woodrow shared his thoughts: "Definitely a tough loss. We played 110 minutes of quality soccer. Despite the loss, we made NHTI earn the win. I cannot ask for more from my team. I am very proud of all of them and all we accomplished this season."

"So, next season, we go back and start the process of 'climbing the mountain.' One goal at a time and one game at a time. The program we have built has a consistent theme of quality, and we take pride in our consistency, quality, and dedication to the game we love," Woodrow later added.

When do they play next?

The Panthers will use this time to train and get ready for next season, which begins in August.
