Albany, N.Y. – The ACPHS Women's Soccer team improved to 2-1 after beating Vermont Technical College 13-0 at home in their first YSCC game.
The Panthers came out scorching hot – chalking up five goals in the first 15 minutes. Sophomore Raegan Wendel (Clifton Park, N.Y.) struck first for ACPHS just seven minutes into the game. Forward Isabella Mancini (Galway, N.Y.) was able to score again for the Panthers just one minute later. Scores from Shannon Donnelly (Bethlehem, N.Y.), Julia Roemer (Latham, N.Y,) and Mayle Lupia-Eannace (Barneveld, N.Y.) were able to put the game out of reach early. ACPHS's first half was utter domination, holding the Knights to zero shots on goal and closing out the first half 8-0.
In the second period, the Panthers picked up where they left off – Roemer racked up three more goals, and the Panthers were able to complete the shutout. Today's game was a perfect example of a full-team effort, and all players contributed to this commanding win.
"It feels great coming off of another win, we have been working really hard, and it shows. We're just trying to work together as a team and play our best. It's great to win two games in a row," said Julia Roemer.
Coach Jonathan Woodrow spoke after the game on how to keep his team ready for next week, "When we play teams like this, I always try to make sure we challenge ourselves within the game. They were down ten people to start, then it went down to nine, so we switched up at
halftime and went down to nine people. I also instituted a 10-pass rule just to push ourselves more. You have to try and make the game interesting even when the other team may not be. You must always make it a challenge and not descend to another team's level."
The Panthers will look to extend the winning streak when they travel to take on Hudson Valley Community College Thursday, September 15th.
