Women's Soccer Rebounds at Home

Albany, N.Y. - The ACPHS Women's Soccer team improved to 5-1-1 after beating SUNY Cobleskill 2-1 at ACPHS Field Wednesday evening.

"This win is great for us! We tactfully switched up a few things from the last game, so it was nice to see things pan out nicely in today's victory," said Coach Jonathan Woodrow.

Panthers Forward Izzy Mancini (Galway, N.Y.) started it off for ACPHS with an impressive goal 15 minutes into the game. Mancini made two defenders miss – following up with a towering shot over the goalie for the game's first score. Aside from the lone goal scored by Mancini, it was a highly competitive half between the two teams – the Panthers had six shots on goal compared to the Fighting Tigers' zero.

Momentum seemed to shift in favor of SUNY Cobleskill early in the second half after Midfielder Jessica Carney scored 10 minutes in – tying the match at one-a-piece. However, Mayle Lupia- Eannace (Barneveld, N.Y.) flawlessly set up ACPHS Forward Julia Roemer (Latham, N.Y), who made a perfect shot – sneaking the ball right past the goalies' hands, helping the Panthers regain the lead.

The Panthers held on in the final seconds – blocking a corner kick to seal the victory. After a hard-fought battle to a tie last Saturday against Southern Maine, the Panthers bounced back with a solid win this evening.

Midfielder Mayle Lupia-Eannace touched on how she saw the field differently to find Julia for the leading goal saying, "A great thing about our team is we never give up, and don't lose motivation even if we're scored on." She finished by saying, "We brought the intensity and surprised them, leading us to hold them out for the win."

Woodrow added, "We have a great vibe going into the Paul Smith's game next week. We get to rest some now, but then we are back to work."

The Panthers will look to continue their winning ways Saturday, October 8th when they host YSCC rival Paul Smith's College.
