Auburn, Me - After the events in Maine last weekend, the YSCC Conference Soccer Tournament was pushed a week back. The Panthers were coming into the weekend as the third seed, ready to take on their rival Paul Smith's. The Panthers were looking for some revenge from earlier in the season, and looking to advance to the YSCC title game the following day.
The first half was a back and forth contest of defensive wits between two very good YSCC teams. Although the Panthers lost to the Bobcats earlier in the year, they were playing amazing defense to ensure the Bobcats did not score. The Panthers were looking for revenge and trying to make a statement that they are not a team you want to mess with. Even though the Panthers did not score in the first half either, holding the Bobcats was a great way to go into the half with the scoreboard reading 0-0.
The second half was where the action started to come in the form of goals scored. The Bobcats were the first to strike, and give themselves a 1-0 lead. However, that one goal would be the only goal the Bobcats would get this game. A little over eight minutes in the half, a ball was sent up forward into the Bobcats box. Senior
Julia Roemer (Latham, NY) was able to get her foot on the ball, and put it in the back of the net for a Panthers equalizer. Fifteen minutes would go by, and Roemer would get the ball again, and set herself up for an amazing goal to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. The game would stay like that for the last twenty two minutes, and the Panthers once again upset the Bobcats in a playoff tournament. The defense held up, played amazing and held the Bobcats to that one goal. This win would mean the Panthers would be playing in their second YSCC title game in three years, this time agaisnt Central Maine.
The Panthers will spend tonight preparing themselves for a great game against Central Maine for the YSCC title tomorrow at 12pm!
