Clinton, NY - The first real rays of sun this spring peaked through the clouds on Saturday, setting the scene for what would be an amazing day for your Panthers. In total, twelve PRs were set, and six school records fell, an outstanding achievement.
The action started in the field, where Timothy Hudson (Hanford, CA) made his season debut. In the Hammer throw, TJ broke, re-broke, and then broke again his own school record on each throw, eventually besting his original mark by over two meters to put the record at 36.07m. From the field to the track, the records continued to fall, where Ethan Nigro (Kingston, NY) took down the 400m hurdle record by over a second to 1:00.30. Ethan would also go on to end the meet with a new PR and record setting performance in the triple jump, hitting 12.70m on his last jump of the day. Returning to the field, Samantha Marion (Ovid, NY) broke a season-old hammer record by over a meter, hitting 21.13m. The last two broken records came from Ryan Haak (Depew, NY), in the 100 and 200m. In the 200, Haak took a half second off his own record, finishing in 22.38s. In the 100m dash, Haak dropped the first ever sub-11 second time in ACPHS history, taking almost two tenths of a second off his record to finish in 10.84s.
In addition to the records, numerous Panthers got personal bests. Morgan Scarzafava (Middletown, NY) took a minute and half off her 3000m steeplechase time, to 15:26. Michael Dean (New Windsor, NY) lowered his 800m time, as did Andy Tran (Vietnam). Ayo Momoh (Abuja, Nigeria) and Erica Scholl (Frankfort, NY) both set new personal bests in the 100m dash, and Dhatri Sangasani (Scarsdale, NY) set a new best in the 100m hurdles. The Panthers also saw bests from Chuck Middleton (Syracuse, NY) in the 400m, Drew Miller in the Long Jump, Audrey Degraw (Parish, NY) in the Discus and Javelin, and Richard Serafin (Oneonta, NY) in the Discus and Shot.
"A really great day," said Coach Samson Dikeman. "As good of weather as we could have asked for, and everyone took full advantage. I'm extremely pleased with the work everyone has put in and happy to see us start to reap some of the fruits of that labor."
The Panthers return to action Saturday at Fitchburg State to compete in the Jim Sheehan Memorial.
