3 Panthers score hat tricks in dominant win

Castleton, VT - The Panthers opened their regular season with a dominant win over the Vikings of Vermont Tech State University - Randolph. The defending USCAA DII National Champions wanted to show they haven't gone anywhere, and that they will be a major force again this season. The game saw three Panthers score hat tricks in a 17-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon.

With the Panthers excited to start their season, it opened against a conference opponent. Right from kickoff the Panthers were on the attack and looking to score quick, and it didn't take long. Just under two minutes into the game, Freshman Emily Silva (Clifton Park, NY) scored a beautiful goal off a pass by Fifth year Julia Roemer (Latham, NY) that sailed over the goalkeepers hands. Eight more minutes passed by when Silva was able to find the back of the net again for her second goal of the game. Silva was then able to add to an already impressive game with a pass to Roemer who was able to find the back of the net for her first goal of the game. Fourteen minutes into the first half, Silva was able to strike another goal in the back of the net to be the first Panther to reach a hat trick in the game.

Roemer was able to find the back of the net for her second goal off a beautiful assist from Fifth year Shannon Donnelly (Bethlethem, NY). Donnelly would find Roemer again less than four minutes later to help Roemer become the second Panther to get a hat trick this game. This goal made it so two Panthers had hat tricks twenty minutes into the game. Already with two assists in the game, Donnelly was able to find the back of the net herself off an assist from fellow Fifth year Jasmine Pyke (Akwesasne, NY), which would be the first of Donnelly's six goals this game. Donnelly would score her second goal off a beautiful assist from senior Emily Sager (Poughquag, NY).  Freshman Mya Wright (Liverpool, NY) found sophomore Ka'ena Kehano (Wailuku, HI) to give Kehano her first goal of the game. Donnelly ended up securing her hat trick with a nice goal coming off a post shot from Kehano. Donnelly would then score one more time before halftime off a beautiful corner kick from Silva.

Donnelly would open the second half scoring the first two goals for the Panthers (bringing her total to 6), the second of which was assisted again by Sager.  Donnelly's 6 goal performance is the second most in a single game in Panthers history! Junior Isabella Mancini (Galway, NY) and Sager were able to find Julia Roemer on Roemer's next two goals to bring her total to 5 goals for the game.  This is Roemer's third career time scoring 5 goals, tying the record for third most goals in a single game. Kehano was able to find the back of the net one more time to bring her total to 2 goals this game. The Panthers scored one more goal on a shot by Emily Sager to give her a goal on top of 3 assists in the game.

This was a very dominate win for the Panthers today and a beautiful way to start the season. The Panthers will have a couple days off before heading to Afrims in Albany for an away game against Bryant & Stratton Albany.
