Utica, NY - In a very deep field of D1, D2, and D3 teams, the Panthers proved themselves worthy competitors.
"This was a great opportunity to get the semester started and get ourselves back into form for some big meets ahead. I'm really pleased especially with our freshman and sophomores who have shown an impressive mentality and who will play a really important role at the end of the season. I was really happy to see records of course, but across the events we saw a lot of season and personal bests" said Coach Dikeman
Several school records were established or fell, with
Ryan Haak's (Depew, NY) 60m effort proving to be not only a school record, but a meet and facility record. Seeded in the fastest heat, Haak blitzed the competition in the prelims, winning his heat by over .3 of a second. His 6.81s now goes down as the fastest recorded time in Utica University's Hutton Sports and Recreation Facility history. Haak would go on to win the 60m final in a time of 6.90s.
Haak came back to establish a new program mark in the 300m, with a time of 38.04.
Freshman Nithya Gutta (Guilderland, NY) broke Katherine Benson's 2016 record in the 300m, running 47.62 to finish 5th overall.
Kayleigh Simpson's (Utica, NY) 6:46.80 bested her own school indoor mile mark.
