The ACPHS men's basketball team shot a sizzling 50% (9-18) from three-point range on Sunday as the Panthers defeated SUNY Canton by a score of 84-75.
Zach Bratek (Dewitt, NY, Jamesville-Dewitt), the leading scorer for the Panthers, scored a game-high 26 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
SUNY Canton took an early 13-12 lead five minutes into the game, but ACPHS countered with 11 straight points to take a 10-point lead. The Roos fought back to tie the game at 28, but ACPHS hit some big three-point shots to take a 45-34 lead into halftime. ACPHS connected on six of nine three-point attempts in the first half, led by
Casey Redfern (Binghamton, NY, Chenango Forks), who made four three-point baskets in the game, and
Ben Sheppard (Clifton Springs, NY, Midlakes) and
Kevin Wiley (Coxsackie, NY, Coxsackie) who each were 2-3 on three-point shots.
In the second half, Bratek took over, using his height advantage to wear down the SUNY Canton defenders and increasing the lead for ACPHS. The Panthers shot 47% from the field to improve to 3-3 on the season.
Redfern finished with 16 points, Sheppard chipped in with 14 points and six assists, while
Brad Allen (Speedsville, NY, Newark Valley) had a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
