BOX SCORE
The season was at stake in today's matchup between the ACPHS men's basketball team and the Culinary Institute of America as the winner would advance to the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference tournament, while the loser would see their season end. Led by
Casey Redfern (Binghamton, NY, Chenango Forks) and
Zach Bratek (Dewitt, NY, Jamesville-Dewitt), the Panthers cruised to a 103-63 victory that clinched the number four seed in next weekend's tournament.
Bratek came into the game just one point shy of 1,000 for his illustrious career, and it didn't take long as the senior center scored on a short jump hook just over one minute into the game. Bratek becomes the 18th member of the 1,000 point club at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and is the first men's basketball player to do so since Bryan Jones in 2009.
The rest of the first half was an offensive display by the Panthers, led by Redfern, who continued his sizzling shooting. The freshman connected on four three-point shots in the first half, and finished five of ten from three-point land on the game. Redfern scored a team-high 21 points for ACPHS while Bratek and
Ben Sheppard (Clifton Springs, NY, Midlakes) each added 17 points.
Peter Aiken (Pottersville, NY, North Warren) had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and
Mickey Shrivastava (Westerly, RI, Westerly) was the fifth Panther in double-figures, scoring 12 points.
The Panthers will face off against the top seed in the tournament, Berkeley College, on Saturday at 2:00 PM at the College of New Rochelle.
