HVIAC Women's Basketball Championships

Panthers Fall at home to Bears, 74-63...

Albany, NY – The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference hosted the Men's and Women's postseason Championships on Sunday, February 22, 2015. The Men's contest featured the #1 seed Berkeley College Knights vs. St. Joseph's College Bears at 2 PM. The Women's matchup featured the #1 seed ACPHS Panthers vs the #2 seed St. Joseph's Bears at 4 PM. In the opening game, the #1 seeded Knights knocked off the #2 seeded Bears, 91 – 82. In the second game the #1 seeded ACPHS Panthers fell to the #2 seed St. Joseph's, 74-63 in front of a packed house at ACPHS.

Women's Game Summary:

The Panthers and Bears played a back and forth opening half with St. Joseph's holding a 39-32 advantage. The Panthers saw stellar play from Dannie Griffin, who poured in 13 first half points and Alexa Schooley's surpassed the 1,000 point plateau for her career late in the final moments of the first half. The Bears were led by Destiny Marino's 10 points and Samantha Retas reached 1,000 rebounds for her career in the half as well.

In the first five minutes of second half, Taylor Sullivan and Megan Serley brought the Panthers back to knot the score at 43 all. The Bears quickly bounced back and regained the lead when Samantha Retas score to give St. Joseph's the 47-45 lead. The Bears continued their inside and out play and began to increase their lead to 11 points at 62-51 with six minutes remaining. At the end of the game, St. Joseph's secured the HVIAC Championship, 74-63 over the Panthers. The Bears were led by Samantha Retas who finished with 28 points and 13 rebounds and Taylor Reccuglia finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

ACPHS were led once again by stellar performances from seniors Megan Serley (11 points), Alexa Schooley (12 points) and Taylor Sullivan (10 points). ACPHS freshman, Dannie Griffin finished the contest with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The Panthers now will look ahead to the USCAA National Tournament as seeding will be release in the week ahead.
