St. Joe's Vermont Takes Down The Panthers

Box Score ALBANY – ACPHS's Brandon Votra led the Panthers with a 19 point, 15 rebound double-double, but it wasn't enough as St. Joseph's won 83-74, with 27 points coming off turnovers.

Naythan Beltran and Alex Johnson were both in double-figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Panthers. Thomas Chalker also chipped in 11 points and four assists off the bench for ACPHS (2-5).

St. Joseph's (5-6) Darrien White scored a game-high 21 points while Jonathan Brioso recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Antonio Gordon and Jared Brown scored 17 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench to lead the Fighting Saint's 31 bench points. Gordon also had a strong defensive effort with a game-high five steals.

Votra opened the game with a six point run to put ACPHS up 11-5 with a 14:38 left to play in the first half. Four and half minutes later, layups from Gordon and White led a 5-0 Saints run to go up 20-15. Chalker broke up the run with a pair of free throws, but St. Joseph's responded with an 8-0 run with two threes from Brown to go up 28-17.

St. Joseph's took their biggest lead of the half when Randy Arrington hit a jump shot to put the Saints up 36-23 at the 4:49 mark. In the last 2:30 of the first half, ACPHS went on a 8-2 run led by Johnson with five points to bring the Panthers within six. With five seconds remaining, the Saint's Kyle Houston made a layup to put St. Joseph's up 46-38 at halftime.

ACPHS opened the second half with a 10-2 run to tie the game 48-48 on a Beltran threat the 16:19 mark, but the Saints responded with a 10-3 run of their own to go up 58-51 with 12:55 remaining in the game.

Kyle Matousek and Beltran combined for three points to come back within four, but it was the closest the Panthers would come to tying the game.

ACPHS hosts The Sage Colleges Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Battle for New Scotland.
