ACPHS fought early, but Sage was too much for the Panthers as they fell to the Gators 102 to 46 on Wednesday night. With the loss, Albany drops to 2-6 while Sage improves to 3-5.
The Panthers came out firing in this one, outscoring Sage 13-9 in the opening eight minutes of the game. Freshman
Kyle Matousek had eight of the Panther's 13, including two three-pointers. This is where things fell apart for ACPHS. Albany would not score another point until there were four minutes left in the half and watched Sag go on a 26-0 run. The Gators pressed effectively and trapped Albany in their own half on most possessions. ACPHS went into the break down 21 points, down 42-21.
The Panther defense was not strong in the second half either, as ACPHS surrendered 60 points to their NCAA opponent. Sage shot an unbelievable 56.8% in the half, finishing the game 39 of 78 (50%) from the floor. Sage's bench outscored the Panther's 62-20, with Sage creating 33 of their 102 off of turnovers. Five Gators finished in double figures including Darius Denmark who recorded a game-high 15. Only one player who checked in did not record a point for Sage on the night. Albany will look for a better result this weekend against Southern Maine CC at 2pm on Saturday, Dec. 8
