Men's Basketball Loses to Bryant & Stratton-Albany

The Men's Basketball team "traveled" to Bryant & Stratton-Albany on Tuesday, losing to the Bobcats 82-68. The Panthers are now 1-3, while Bryant is 2-1.

This game was a bit strange for the Panthers, as they were technically the away team in their own gym due to this originally being scheduled as a home game for the Bobcats. It did feel like an away game though, as a large contingent of Bryant & Stratton fans constantly made the atmosphere a nervous one for ACPHS.

The game started with senior guard Thomas Chalker (Boundbrook, NJ / Metuchen HS) absolutely dealing, recording assists on Albany's first three made baskets and helping the Panthers out to a 9-0 lead. Bryant & Stratton countered with a 10-0 run in the next five minutes though, and we knew  we had a good game on our hands.

The Bobcats largest lead of the half was 11 points when they were up 31-20 at the 2:44 mark of the first half, but ACPHS was able to cut the lead to just six before the break. Chalker was able to put up six assists in the opening 20 minutes, while junior forward Edward Ahanmisi (Vancouver, BC / Bodwell High) led the team in scoring with eight.

Albany fought all the way back to tie the game at 44 with 12 minutes left following a three-pointer from freshman guard Joel Martineau (Ausable Forks, NY / Ausable Valley HS), his only made basket of the day, but the Bobcats broke it open shortly thereafter. They ripped off a 21-6 run that ended up being the deciding factor in the game. Bryant was able to coast from there and pick up their second win of the young season.

For ACPHS, junior guard Naythan Beltran (Reading, PA / Antietam HS) continued his hot start to the year, leading the team with 21 points to bring his season average to 21.5 ppg. Other players in double figures for the Panthers were Ahanmisi with 10, and freshman forward Noah Farnsworth (Phoenix, AZ / North Pointe Prep) with a career-high 12. This matchup was decided largely on the boards, where the Panthers were out-rebounded 46-28.

Albany will look to bounce back on Saturday, when they travel to SUNY Cobleskill at 1:00 PM.
