The ACPHS Women's Basketball team ran into a buzz saw on Friday, falling to the Central Maine Community College Mustangs on Friday 96-39. CMCC is now 8-1, while the Panthers dropped to 39.
Albany was never given a chance in this one, with the Mustangs executing their suffocating press defense on their way to scoring the game's first 18 points. They would jump out to a 28-5 lead after the opening 10 minutes, and a 51-15 lead at the half. ACPHS had a better second half, but in the end the Mustangs were too much.
For CMCC, it was a team effort, as each player that checked in scored at least three points. Their leading scorer was Alex Bessey with 13, while four others also finished in double figures. They forced the Panthers into 39 turnovers, and outrebounded ACPHS 50-25.
For Albany, junior guard
Emma Webster (Cadyville, NY / Saranac High) led the way with thirteen points on 3-10 shooting. Junior forward
Olivia Parmeter (Waddington, NY / Madrid Waddington Central) was right behind with nine points, adding five steals and one block. ACPHS forced a season-high 23 turnovers, with all but two players recording at least one steal.
The Panthers will look for their second win of the year when they travel to SUNY Delhi to face off against the Broncos at 1:00pm today, December 2
