Junior midfielder
Noah Keith (Rotterdam, NY / CBA) drilled home a penalty kick for the game-winning goal in the 84
th minute to give ACPHS a 1-0 win over SUNY-ESF last Friday. The win pushed the Panthers to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the HVIAC, while the Mighty Oaks fell to 3-2 and 2-1 in the conference.
The Panthers were the first team to record a shot on target, when
Alex Bleau (Castleton, NY / Maple Hill High School) forced a save out of ESF keeper Carmine Tronolone. The Mighty Oaks would be the main aggressors thereafter, attempting 10 shots, four of which were saved by
Ryan Hobson (Red Hook, NY / Red Hook High School). Hobson would go on to save seven shots in total, playing all 90 minutes. ACPHS didn't take another shot until the 42
nd minute, when freshman
Michel Abdelmalek (Guilderland, NY / Guilderland High School) caused Tronolone to make another save. The teams went into the break scoreless, with the Mighty Oaks leading on shots 10-2.
After halftime, it was more of the same for the Panthers, as they played stout defense hoping to hit the Mighty Oaks on the counterattack. The plan finally came to fruition with just seven minutes left, when the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick the Keith slotted home for his second goal of the young season. ESF outshot the Panthers 18-5, and led in corners 6-0, but ACPHS came away with the all-important conference victory.
The Panthers went on to beat the Pratt Institute Cannoneers 7-0 on Sunday, September 23
rd. The recap for the game can be found at acphsathletics.com under the schedule tab.
