The ACPHS Women's Basketball returned from their winter break on Saturday, losing to the North Country Community College Saints by a score of 69-38. Albany have now lost their last six games, and are 1-10 overall. NCCC continued their stellar non-conference season, improving to 10-2 after winning their fifth straight game.
The Panthers long layoff seemed to affect them at the outset of the contest, as the Saints raced out to a 12-0 lead on the back of some hot shooting and lockdown defense. ACPHS ended the quarter down 22-5, managing just two made baskets in the opening ten minutes. Things did get a bit easier for Albany thereafter, as they found their stride offensively in the 2
nd quarter, scoring 15 points, their best of the game. NCCC never slowed down on the offensive end though, as they were able to outscore ACPHS in every single quarter and lead wire-to-wire.
Despite the team's offensive struggles, junior guard
Emma Webster (Cadyville, NY / Saranac High) posted a game-high 20 points on 7-18 shooting, hitting four threes. Freshman guard
Clare Snell (Potsdam, NY / Parishville Hopkinton) added three more steals to her season tally, and is now averaging 2.2 steals a game, which is good enough for 2
nd in the HVIAC.
For the Saints, it was Ty Taylor leading the way with 20 points., while Jasmine Cruse wasn't far behind with 16 points of her own. NCCC dominated the boards in this one, outrebounding ACPHS 57-27 and outscoring the Panthers 42-10 in the paint.
ACPHS will be right back at it on Monday, when they face off against The College of Saint Joseph at 5pm in Albany.
