Four Panthers finished in double figures on Sunday, leading ACPHS to a 91-57 win over conference foe The King's College. Albany is now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the HVIAC.
Both teams came out firing in the opening minutes, trading buckets until King's was able to build a 17-10 lead at the 14:32 mark. ACP spent the next five minutes clawing its way back, eventually tying the score at 23 following a fastbreak three-pointer from sophomore guard
Caleb Scrime. It was all Panthers from that point on, as the home team closed the half on a 25-8 run thanks to some stifling defense and some great work in transition. The Panthers outscored King's 11-2 on the break and 32-16 in the paint in the first half and took a 48-31 lead into the break.
Albany's lead never fell below 15 in the second, allowing head coach
Brett Barnard to rest his key players for a large portion of the final ten minutes. ACPHS out-rebounded the Lions 56-40, turning their 18 offensive rebounds into 24 second-chance points. Senior guard Nathaniel Beltran posted a game-high 20 points and five steals. Senior transfer
Jordan Simmons followed closely behind with 16 points and three made three-pointers. Senior forward
Evan Georgio chipped in ten points and four rebounds in just ten minutes of action. For King's Jesse Filho led the way with 20 points on 8-13 shooting.
Men's Basketball gets a week off before taking a trip to Five Town's College this Sunday at 2:30 PM.
