Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Timothy Maisonet | Sports Information Director

Men's Basketball Falls to Bryant & Stratton Rochester

Fresh off of a buzzer-beating win over conference rivals Five Town's College, Men's Basketball fell to Bryant & Stratton College (Rochester) on Tuesday night 82-66. Overall, the Panthers are now 5-2.

The first half was a tightly contested one, with neither team building a lead that was greater than five points. The lead actually changed hands seven times before Albany closed out the half on a 10-3 run thanks to some unlikely faces. Freshman guard Dennis Benjack hit a three, converted a layup, and assisted junior guard Nick Ferri on a fastbreak bucket all during the late surge. It was also a productive half for senior center Evan Georgio, who hit two mid-range jumpers on his way to six points and three rebounds off the bench.

ACPHS went into the break with a 37-33 advantage, but would see that evaporate quickly in the opening minutes of the second half. The game saw six more lead changes before the score ended up 49-49 with 12:31 left to go. This is when the Bobcats made their move. They would outscore ACP 43-17 the rest of the way by constantly forcing the Panthers into tough shots and executing efficiently on the offensive end. The Panthers shot just 10-37 (27%) in the half and a dismal 2-16 (12%) from three. Bryant recorded 12 straight points during one stretch, and were able to close the game out in the end.

The scoring was balanced for the Panthers as five players finished with eight or more points but none with more than 11. Beltran was the leading scorer, but he got into some early foul trouble and ended up playing only 17 minutes. Starting point guard John Ambert posted ten points, seven assists and seven rebounds. For the Bobcats, Elroy Clark led the way with 13 points on an efficient 5-11 shooting. Deondrae Parker chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Albany will look to bounce back on Wednesday, December 4th when they take on Bryant & Stratton College (Albany). Tip-off is at 7:30 PM.
