Women's Soccer Puts 11 Past Five Towns

The ACPHS women's soccer team won their first game of the season on Sunday, scoring eight goals in the second half on their way to an 11-1 victory over the Five Towns College Sound. The Panthers are now 1-3-2 overall and 1-2 in the HVIAC, while the Sound are still searching for their first win at 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Only eight players made the trip with FTC to face Albany yesterday, an advantage the Panthers first capitalized on in the 20th minute, when sophomore Juliette Beatty picked up a long pass from junior Gabriella Evangelista and slotted home for her first goal of the year. Evangelista, normally the team's goalkeeper, started the game at forward and finished it with a goal and two assists.

Albany netted again just three minutes later, when Evangelista was taken down in the box and junior defender Emily D'Abrosca stepped up and buried the ensuing penalty. The Panthers' final goal of the half was scored by freshman Mayle Lupia-Eannace, after she dispossessed FTC defender Jennifer Xiong and slid in her team-leading fourth goal of the year.

The second half was more of the same for Albany, who scored just 16 seconds in thanks to a wonderful move that was capped off by sophomore Dameree Corina. Corina would score again in the 58th minute, but not before goals from Lupia-Eannace and Evangelista had already put the game well out of reach. Lupia-Eannace would finish off her hat-trick just seven minutes later.

FTC got their consolation goal through Xiong in the 69th minute, one of only three shot attempts they had all game. Freshman Shannon Donnelly, fresh off 45 minutes in goal in the first half, bagged a brace in the final 20 minutes of the game. Marjorie Brunell also scored her first collegiate goal to round out the scoring. In all, it was a dominating performance by the Panthers from start to finish.

ACPHS outshout FTC 48-3, putting 25 of those efforts on target. Also putting in a great shift was sophomore Samantha Gibbs, who chipped in two assists to go along with some solid defensive work.

The Panthers will look to continue their winning ways next Sunday, when they host Bryant & Stratton College at 1 PM.
