Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Tim Maisonet | Sports Information Director

Women's Basketball Drops First Conference Game to Berkeley

Senior guard Emma Webster scored a game-high 26 points on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers fell to the Berkeley College Knights 69-54. The Panthers now sit second in the HVIAC with a 3-1 record while the Knights lead the way at 4-0.

Albany showed that they belonged early on, scoring the game's first five points and closing the first quarter on an 8-2 run thanks to some work in the half-court. A pair of threes from junior guard Emily D'Abrosca and a layup from Webster stretched the ACPHS lead to six by the end of the first quarter.

The Panthers held their lead until 2:13 left in the second quarter, when the Knights edged in front after a jumper fell for Sabriana Franck. Berkeley never trailed after that, with Albany fighting hard to keep the game close but ultimately falling short. A strange moment in the third quarter saw sophomore guard Clare Snell ejected, leaving the Panthers without their starting point guard and top defender for much of the second half.

Kaina Martinez led the Knights in scoring with 16, but it was their offensive rebounding that won the day. Berkeley recorded 21 offensive boards and turned them into 17 points, compared to just 10 and four for the Panthers respectively. The Knights also shot a robust 44% from beyond the arc, as they will likely parlay this victory into a #1 seed heading into the 2020 HVIAC Tournament.

On the Panthers' side, Webster's 26 points came mostly from three-point range where she went 6-12. Snell finished with eight points, 10 rebounds and three steals in just 28 minutes of action.

ACPHS gets a week off before they host Bunker Hill CC on Sunday January 19th at 4:00 PM. Live stats for that game will be available on acphsathletics.com.
