Sophomore guard
Clare Snell finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and four assists as the ACPHS Panthers beat the Bunker Hill Community College Bulldogs 66-53 on Sunday afternoon. The win improved the Panthers overall record to 6-7.
The teams were mostly even during the opening ten minutes, with neither side amassing a lead more than four points. Albany cut the Bunker Hill lead to two heading into the second period thanks to a buzzer-beating layup from senior forward
Cory Parker.
The beginning of the second quarter was all Bunker Hill, as they stretched that two-point lead all the way to nine following a three-point basket from Adanna Hector. The Panthers, led by Snell, went on a 15-8 run fro that point on to go into the second half down 32-30.
The teams once again traded blows until the closing minutes, when they ended up tied at 53 with 2:58 to go. This is when the Panthers made their move. A layup from freshman forward
Hope Walker gave Albany the lead and they would never look back. Back-to-back steals from seniors
Emma Webster and
Olivia Parmeter led to baskets on the other end and put the Panthers in the driver seat. They scored the game's last 13 points to walk away with the victory.
For Bunker Hill, Leidy Pena Guerrero finished with 18 points but was one of three Bulldogs to foul out late. Lastarrsha Bradham led Bunker Hill with 19 points and seven steals.
Snell's performance was the standout one of the day, but all five ACPHS starters contributed in this huge team win. Parmeter scored 14 points on 6-11 shooting and dished out five dimes. Webster scored 15 with six rebounds and four assists.
Hope Walker recorded her third collegiate double-double with 12 points and 13 boards, while junior
Emily D'Abrosca chipped in four points and 10 rebounds.
The Panthers resume action Thursday, January 23rd when they travel to Vermont Technical College at 7:00 PM.
