Men's Basketball lost a tough weekend matchup with Paul Smith's College on Sunday, falling to the Bobcats 76-66. The loss extends the Panthers' losing streak to six and puts their overall record at 6-12.
The Panthers played well for about 35 minutes on Sunday, but they once again let a five-minute stretch do them in as they struggle to get back to winning ways. Early on, Albany led multiple times and looked confident on both ends of the floor. Senior guard
Naythan Beltran had a stretch where he scored nine straight Panther points on his way to a team-high 16. The Bobcats kept pace though, taking a 27-25 lead ot the 5:24 mark of the opening half. Paul Smith's closed out the half on a 15-4 including that bucket and the Panthers once again had to find a way to come back.
ACPHS did rally in the second half, when their starters ripped off a 15-4 run of their own to knot the score at 44 with 14:06 to play. They never could retake the lead though, as Paul Smith's produced answer after answer for anything Albany could bring. Down the stretch, the Panthers continued to keep the pressure on but the Bobcats hit their free throws and saw out their eighth win of the year.
The Panthers had three other seniors finish in double figures along with Beltran:
Evan Georgio,
Edward Ahanmisi, and
John Ambert. Ahanmisi put up 12 points and 10 rebounds while Ambert posted 14 points and eight assists. Paul Smith's College was led by Sterling Scott and Brandon Degrasse, who finished with 20 and 15 points respectively.
Albany will look to put this behind them this coming Friday, when they host HVIAC-foe Vaughn College at 7:00 PM.
