Sophomore guard
Clare Snell dropped a career-high 31 points on Tuesday night, leading the ACPHS Panthers to a 68-81 win over NCAA Division III affiliated SUNY Delhi. The win moves Albany's overall record to 9-9 in 2019-20.
The Panthers turned the ball over on their first three possessions and quickly found themselves down 6-0, but they fought back to even with made-threes from Snell and senior guard
Emma Webster. Delhi took back the lead at the 7:05 mark, but that's when the Panthers made their move. They ripped off a 17-0 run that took almost the remainder of the quarter. During that stretch, Delhi missed 12 straight shots due to some stifling defense from the Panthers. The Broncos were able to outscore Albany 13-9 in the second quarter, cutting the Panther lead to just eight heading into the break.
ACPHS had to show some metal in the second half, as the Broncos opened up the third quarter on a 8-3 run to cut the lead to just three with 6:23 left. Delhi ended up overturning the deficit on the final shot of the third and took a one-point lead into the final ten minutes.
That lead stretched all the way to seven on the 9:17 mark of the fourth quarter following a three from Delhi's Sam Acuna, and it appeared as if the Panthers had let this one slip away. But the ACP once again locked down defensively and only allowed eight more points the rest of the way, outscoring SUNY 22-8.
Snell was the engine of the team on the offensive end, consistently getting her own shot and opening up the rest of the team as the Broncos had to key in on her. To go along with her game-high 31 points, she added nine rebounds, five steals and four assists. She now sits at #9 in the USCAA with 3.7 steals per game.
In the end, this probably was the most complete game ACPHS has played to date. Webster made five threes and was second on the team with 18 points. Senior forward
Olivia Parmeter also contributed all over the floor, finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four helpers.
Albany travels to Southern Maine Community College this Saturday, February 8th.
