Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Chad Boyles

ACPHS' strong second half too much for Northern Essex

Albany, N.Y. - The ACPHS Men's Soccer team rediscovered their form Saturday evening with a 5-1 win against Northern Essex Community College.  A game that went into halftime evenly split 1-1 quickly turned in the second half when a flurry of goals from the Panthers left the visitors four down.

The scoring began nearly a quarter of the way into the first half when Senior captain Chuck Middleton (Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse) slotted home a nicely weighted ball from Firaas Anis (Brooklyn, N.Y. / FDR High School).  15 minutes later, the Knights responded with their only goal of the day when Fadi Serhan bent the ball perfectly into the top corner from a foot inside of the 18.  The game appeared evenly split as the two teams traded chances headed into halftime.

However, the second 45 told a different story.  Middleton continued to shine, scoring another and providing the assist to Freshmen Midfielder Michael Dean's (New Windsor, N.Y. / Washingtonville High School) goal, the first of his ACPHS career.  Two more goals from Matt Maggy (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown High School) and Alexander Verkaik sealed the comfortable win.  The Panthers second half display was a thing of beauty, having strung together some very well worked goals.  In that span, the Panthers looked as good as they have all season.

When asked about his teams performance coming off the back of two consecutive defeats, Coach John Adeseko said:  "It was all about calming down a little bit.  Using time to move the ball, find gaps, and get everybody involved.  That was the key to this game."

The Panthers, down three starters will feel deserving of the win after a very good team performance.

"A game like this is huge."  said Adeseko.  "Guys got some unexpected minutes.  But a win like this after a two game skid means everything for our season."

Now 6-4 (3-1), ACPHS will travel to Word of Life Institute on Wednesday, October 6th at 7:00 PM.  The Panthers will look to maintain Saturdays momentum as the season eclipses it's halfway mark.
