ACPHS Women's Soccer continued its dominant start to the season on Saturday, besting the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves 1-0 at ACPHS Field. The Panthers are now 7-0 on the year and 3-0 in the YSCC, which is good enough for sole possession of first place in the conference.
The first half was a tight one, with neither team garnering any discernible advantage throughout the first 45. Nine minutes in, ACPHS created their best chance when junior midfielder
Mayle Lupia-Eannace (Barneveld, NY / Holland Patent High School) drove into the opposition half and found freshman forward
Izzy Mancini (Galway, NY / Gallway High School). Mancini got the ball under control and ripped a right-footed shot from the top of the box, but her effort was parried away by Seawolves keeper Ella Campbell.
The Panthers finally found the breakthrough in the second half, when junior midfielder
Shannon Donnelly (Delmar, NY / Bethlehem Central High School) sprung a counter attack and fed the ball to graduate student
Emily D'Abrosca (Cumberland, RI / Mount St. Charles Academy) The midfielder took one touch and rocketed a shot into the far corner for her eighth goal of the year. That would be enough for ACPHS, has they played outstanding defense down the stretch and secured the victory. In the end, ACPHS outshot SMCC 8-7 with senior goalkeeper
Gabriella Evangelista (Warwick, NY / Warwick Valley High School) making four saves.
ACPHS will look to retain their perfect record tomorrow as they host Fulton Montgomery Community College at 2:00pm. Follow along with live video here at acphsathletics.com.
