Albany, N.Y. - The ACPHS Mens Soccer team fell to Bryant & Stratton - Albany Thursday night 0-1 after a free kick goal by freshmen David Kiraba sealed the win for the Bobcats eight minutes into the first overtime period.
The Panthers got off to a slow start but eventually grew into the game, which was a stalemate until the final moments. Both offenses split possession in what was a back and forth affair highlighted by solid performances in goal. Senior goalkeeper
Ryan Hobson (Red Hook, N.Y. / Red Hook) had four saves on 13 Bryant & Stratton shots, one of which struck the crossbar in the first half.
Both teams shared opportunities as ACPHS will regret not taking a few of their chances as well. The Panthers had 6 shots on goal.
As the match wore on, it became a physical battle where four second half yellow cards were displayed. Neither team was willing to let this one slip away. As the game entered overtime, there was no sight of a goal as both midfields were working hard at obtaining possession for their sides. That was until a foul just outside the ACPHS 18 gave Bryant & Stratton an opportunity to get the ball into a position to test Hobson. Freshman David Kiraba, who played a full 98 minutes for the Bobcats stepped up to the spot and placed the free kick beautifully into the top corner giving the goalkeeper no chance. The golden goal strike ended the game eight minutes into the first overtime.
The loss is ACPHS' second in succession and first in conference. The Panthers fall to 5-4 (3-1) and will look to regain form October 2nd, at home against Northern Essex Community College.
