Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Chad Boyles

Womens Soccer stays perfect despite overtime scare

Albany, N.Y. -  The ACPHS Women's Soccer team survived a scare from Bryant & Stratton - Albany Thursday night edging out a 4-3 win that nearly needed a second overtime.

The rain poured down Thursday night during a match that started quickly in the Panthers favor.  Three goals in less than 13 minutes gave ACPHS a comfortable 3-0 lead.  Strikes from Raegan Wendel (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendahowa High School), Emily D'Abrosca (Cumberland, RI / Mount St. Charles Academy) and Mayle Lupia-Eannace (Barneveld, N.Y. / Holland Patent High School) set the tone in what looked like a runaway for the Panthers.

Though, the Bobcats responded strongly and two goals before halftime put them back in striking distance as the match came down the stretch.  A fierce Panthers attack, with 9 of their 21 shots coming in the second half, were unable to convert a handful of solid opportunities to put the game back to rest.  Eventually, Bryant & Stratton took advantage when forward Amy Leon struck a beauty from outside the 18 that was just out of senior goalkeeper Gabriella Evangelista's reach.  The Bobcats had just 2 shots in the second half, but the game would head into overtime tied 3-3.

Eannace continued to lead the way for the Panthers in the extra period as her activity in midfield eventually set up the game winning goal from the Sophomore Wendel who ended the night with a brace.  The goal came just minutes from the end of the first overtime and ACPHS, who had given up just two goals all season prior to this one, were able to retain their perfect record.

Now, the Panthers will look to defend their unblemished start to the season with a visit from NAIA DII Fisher College Saturday, October 2nd at 11:00 AM.
