Men's Soccer Drops Close One at Home

Albany, N.Y. – The ACPHS Men's Soccer team fell to (4-3-1 Overall) after losing against Marywood University 2-4 at ACPHS Field Saturday afternoon.

Today's match was dedicated to the memory of Christine M. Rowley. Christine Rowley was part of ACPHS as an alumna who graduated in '96. After ACPHS, she went on to work as a pharmacist – where she touched the lives of many through her spirited personality and infectious smile.

Unfortunately, Christine passed away this past June after a three-year battle with leiomyosarcoma. During her illness, she carried herself with strength and dignity, which everyone around her felt. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 22 years, William Rowley Jr., her parents James and Rita Flanders, and her children, Elizabeth Rowley, and a member of the Panthers Soccer team, Samuel Rowley. It was an honor to cherish her memory Today. The ACPHS family is forever grateful for everything she did for our community, offering our condolences to the entire Rowley family.

Firaas Anis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) found Charles Middleton (Syracuse, N.Y.) for his third goal of the season one minute into the game. The Forward netted the game's first goal with an immaculate header right over the goalie's hands. Sophomore Sahil Arora (Waterford. N.Y.) followed up with his own score just three minutes later, an impressive shot from outside the box into the right corner of the net. Unfortunately for the Panthers, their offensive output did not steer the Pacers away. Danny Gomez and Kyle Falcon scored two unassisted goals for Marywood University – making it 2-2 at halftime.

In the second half, tempers flared – Danny Gomez picked up a yellow card for the Pacers after arguing with the referee. After the Pacers took the lead with under 19 minutes left to play, ACPHS' Charles Middleton got into a verbal exchange with Marywood's Christopher Valdes – leading to both men having to be separated after being charged with yellow cards. The Panthers remained scoreless for the entirety of the half; Jordan Pattavina-Arroyo put the game away for the Pacers – scoring a breakaway goal with three minutes remaining.

After the game, Coach John Adeseko gave his thoughts on Today's tough loss, "Today was good for us. You play an NCAA DIII team; you must expect them to play hard, fast, and aggressive. It was a valuable experience for us. It is a learning process, we learned from this, and we will get better. We have a few days off before we play again, so we'll keep our heads high and keep fighting."

The Panthers will try and get back in the winning column when they travel to take on YSCC rival Hampshire College Thursday, Oct. 6, at 4:00 p.m.
