Paul Smiths, N.Y. - Friday evening, the ACPHS men's basketball team (2-4 overall) (0-3 conference) lost their third straight YSCC matchup, 84-71, against Paul Smith's College.
After the Panthers lost in dominating fashion in their last outing, they came into this matchup looking to get back in the winning column.
First-half breakdown
After forced shots in the paint area that led to points in transition, the Panthers fell behind 11-4 – causing Head Coach Robert Coleman to burn a timeout.
After the break, ACPHS continued to drive into the clogged territory – Coleman yelled at his team to "Get [the ball] out." Although the Panthers forced shots, their lack of getting back on defense got them into a hole early on.
A lackluster start and poor transition defense sent ACPHS into the locker room down 39-30.
Second-half recap
Coming out of the half, ACPHS began playing full-court man-to-man defense – trying to claw their way back into the game off forced turnovers.
Unfortunately, the Bobcats broke the press quickly and could get whatever they wanted on the offensive side of the floor. With ten minutes left to play, the Panthers found themselves down 21 points.
From that point on, Coleman sent in the second unit to try and get a spark off the bench. To no avail, the Bobcats continued to dominate the Panthers wherever the ball went.
In this bout, ACPHS was held to their least number of points all season – adjustments will have to be made if this team wants a chance to be an elite contender in the later part of the season.
What was said after the game?
After the loss, Coach Coleman was asked what his message to his team was: "Practice tomorrow at 5 p.m.!" Coleman said angrily.
Coleman recognizes the importance of the next game and how another loss this early in the season can diminish the Panthers' chances of entering the postseason.
When do they play next?
The Panthers return to action Sunday, Nov. 20, when they host Southern Maine Community College for their fourth straight YSCC matchup.
