Auburn, ME - Women's basketball drops back to back against against conference foes. Friday morning, they took off for a weekend trip to Maine to take on Central Maine Community College and University at Maine Augusta.
VS. CMCC:
It was a tall task to start the weekend for the Panthers. Going into the game, Central Maine was voted the number one team in the USCAA D.II coaches poll. This was going to be a difficult game right from the tip. Unfortunately the game showed to be indeed difficult from the start. The Panthers could not find their shot in the first half, on top of some tough defense. However, this being the Women's third game of the season, they're still trying to find their footing. Along with the shooting the Panthers turned the ball over 21 times, to as where the best team in the country capitalized on. It showed in the box score as the Panthers went into halftime down by double digits.
Going into the start of the second half, it was a lot of the same rolling over from the first half. It unfortunately got worse for the Panthers as their leading scorer so far this season
Dida Slusrasek fouled out, taking away a bucket. Although Slusrasek had to watch the rest of the game, 5th year
Clare Snell (Potsdam, NY) stepped up! She helped show Central Maine the Panthers had life by dropping 14 of her team high 20 points in the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter Snell shot perfect from the field to reach that mark. Although this game did not swing towards the Panthers, there was some bright spots to be proud of. They held Central Maine on 3-25 shooting from 3pt range, and forced 12 turnovers as well.
Anna Jensen (Valley Falls, NY) also pulled down 7 rebounds to help lead the glass for the Panthers.
Vs UMA:
The Panthers came into this game looking to bounce back from the shooting performance the day before, and they did just that! The Panthers came out in the first quarter shooting 40% from the field and outshooting Maine Augusta. Most of the team was able to find the bottom of the net as after the first quarter the Panthers were down by 16-14. Maine Augusta stepped up their defense in quarter two, and held the Panthers to a tough shooting quarter. Although it was a rough quarter the Panthers were in reach by 13, and 5 of 6 Panthers had scored.
Coming into the second half, it seemed as if Maine Augusta couldn't miss. Although
Dida Slusrasek (Sarasota, FL) scored 7 of her team high 15 points in quarter three, Maine Augusta was shooting a good percentage. Maine Augusta ended up shooting 64% from the field to open up their lead more on the Panthers, making the fourth quarter a hefty task. The Panthers were able to score 12 more points, to give them their highest scoring total so far this season.
Anna Jensen and
Clare Snell both grabbed another 6 rebounds, and dropped 6 points.
Erica Scholl (Frankfort, NY) scored 11 points herself to be the other Panther in double digits.
The Panthers will have a couple days off to get ready for Word of Life on Wednesday 12/7 at 7pm.
