Men's Basketball Drop Both Games in Weekend Road-Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pourtsmouth, N.H. - The ACPHS Men's Basketball team dropped both games in a back-to-back this weekend traveling to Southern Maine on Saturday and Great Bay on Sunday.

The Panthers traveled with just seven players due to injury and illness, and their lack of depth showed on Saturday, running out of steam against 7th ranked Southern Maine.  A competitive start was nullified by an SMCC run to end the first half.  In the second, the Seawolves depth and athleticism prevailed.  Ryan Kurtz was a bright spot for the Panthers, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds on 5-7 shooting.  Five Panthers logged over 30 minutes, while no one on SMCC played more than 20.

On Sunday, a short commute from South Portland to Pourtsmouth saw ACPHS come out with much more energy.  Again, the Panthers stuck around early, but towards the end of the first half and into the second, the Panther's thin roster showed, and Great Bay was able to break away for a 96-58 win.

ACPHS, now 0-12, will look to regain their fitness and health after multiple COVID-related pauses.

The Panthers record is no indication of how Head Coach Robert Coleman feels about his team heading into the final stretch of the season.

"The energy was very good on Sunday." he said.  "We're inexperienced, which is not ideal at our level, but when and if we're clicking - we can be dangerous."

In asked what his expectations were as the season winds down, Coleman said: "The expectation is that we just get better.  I see individuals growing, improving - now we have to grow and improve collectively.  We can pose a threat in postseason play.  Everyone has a chance, and if there is one thing we have learned this year, it's that anything can happen."

Coach Coleman's positive mindset has been a staple for the Panthers all season.  Now, the group will continue to train hard ahead of their next game, a visit from 2nd ranked NHTI on Thursday.
