Albany, N.Y. – The ACPHS Women's Soccer team improved to 4-1 after winning at home against Central Maine Community College 5-3 Sunday afternoon.
Panthers Forward
Julia Roemer (Latham, N.Y.) struck first for ACPHS two minutes into the game – she was able to steal the keeper's kick and deliver the score. Senior
Mayle Lupia-Eannace (Barneveld, N.Y.) scored her third goal of the season with under five minutes left in the half, putting the Panthers up 2-0.
In the second period, Mustangs Madison Drew was able to make things interesting – scoring four minutes in. However, two goals from Roemer and a score from Midfielder
Shannon Donnelly (Bethlehem, N.Y.) were enough to seal the victory for ACPHS.
In the last four wins, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 28-3. Coach
Jonathan Woodrow assessed his team's success, "Our progress is thanks to our tactical battle. We shifted some things up last game against Hudson Valley, and we implemented that same strategy in the midfield and forward regions today. We decided to play Julia back a little bit and switch up our attacks; the plan going forward is to keep switching things up and keep our opponents guessing."
Donnelly shared how it feels to rack up four straight, "It feels great to pick up this win! We had three tough scrimmages to start the season, which really humbled us. We are constantly working on maintaining possession during practice, so we don't have to run as much in the game. Overall, this was a great win, and we look forward to keeping it going next week."
The Panthers will look to keep the win streak alive when they travel to Southern Maine Community College Saturday, September 24th.
