Albany, NY - Hot off a win on Saturday afternoon, the Panthers took on the York County Hawks looking to extend their win streak. Riding their momentum, they fought hard against the Hawks and extended their win streak to 2 games.
The Panthers controlled the ball early, getting 15 shots off in the first half alone. 2 of them found the back of the net, scored by captains Ryan Prescott (Wayne, NJ) and Sam Rowley (Queensbury, NY) with an assist by the third team captain Jay Carlson (Saratoga, NY). The Panthers went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Riding their momentum from the first half, Carlson and Rowley both found the back of the net within four minutes of the second half to push the lead to 4-0. Frustration set in for the Hawks as the game became more physical as 5 yellow cards were handed out in the second half between the two teams. However, the increased physicality did not slow down the defense as they only allowed 3 shots for the entire game.
Towards the end of the game, Charles Casha (Lindenhurst, NY) scored the team's fifth goal off a header from Vincent DeVito (Saratoga, NY) to extend the lead to 5. The Hawks avoided the shutout with a last minute goal from Tyler LeBeuf, but the Panthers emerged victorious by a score of 5-1.
"Defense wins championships," said Sam Rowley post game. "We've had hard practices," he explained that the physicality of the game was nothing new to them and how his team was ready for it.
The Panthers will take on the CMCC Mustangs on Friday evening in a doubleheader with the women's team at home.
