Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Panthers Win Big on Taco Tuesday

Albany, NY - The Panthers took on the JV SUNY Canton Roos on a night where SAAC hosted a Taco Tuesday event, selling walking tacos to the crowd. Anyways, the Panthers came ready to play.

The first half started pretty back and forth, with neither team gaining a lead larger than 5 points.  Only 4 minutes into the game, Brett Richards (Kinderhook, NY) had the play of the night where he had a fast break two-handed dunk over one of the opposing players, making the crowd erupt.  With about 7 minutes left in the first half and up by only one point, the Panthers began to run away with it.  Richards would finish with 12 first half points while Jalon Munoz (Helotes, TX), Michael Leak (Delanson, NY), and Logan Yohe (Delmar, NY) all had 5 points.  The Panthers would go into the half up 37-25.

Riding the momentum from the first half, Munoz and Richards shot a combined 8-8 from the field for 18 second half points.  Leak and Yohe would each score 5 more points, but so did K'den Spears (Dover, DE) and Tristan Lisbony (Houston, TX) this time.  The Panthers' 23 assists and 13 steals were too much for the Roos to handle as the Panthers would go on to win 87-59.  Richards finished with 20 points and 4 blocks while Leak and Yohe combined for 20 off the bench.  Spears' 7 points marked a new career high for the freshman.

Despite the big win, head coach Robert Coleman still thinks his team can improve, "Good win tonight but we're still figuring things out. We're very inconsistent - that's our youth. No seniors, only 3 juniors, 6 sophomores and 5 freshmen... I'm proud we're beginning to pride ourselves on defense and sharing the ball on offense."

The Panthers will have a few days rest until their next game on Saturday afternoon against the CMCC Mustangs in a doubleheader with the women's team.
