Albany, NY - The men's basketball team took on the Vaughn College Phoenix on Sunday evening after a monstrous performance from Brett Richards (Kinderhook, NY) the night before.
Richards scored the first bucket of the game and the Panthers would go on to lead from wire to wire. The Panthers shot nearly 62% from the field in the first half, including making more than half their three point attempts. Richards continued his hot streak by dropping 17 points and 5 rebounds in the first half while Logan Yohe (Delmar, NY) added 8 points and the other three starters combined for 19 points to give the Panthers a halftime lead of 52-29.
The second half slowed down a bit for the Panthers, shooting only 40% from the field including 2/12 from deep, but Michael Leak (Delanson, NY) managed to score 6 more points to bring his total to twelve. Jalon Munoz (Helotes, TX) finished close to a triple double once more, this time with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Richards had 19 points and 8 boards while Yohe finished with 13 points and Alex Carrillo (Akron, OH) with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
The Phoenix actually outscored the Panthers 44-31 in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the final score would end up being 83-73 in the Panthers' favor. The Panthers will head to Word of Life on the Thursday after Thanksgiving to play the Huskies for their next game.
