Panthers Pickup Road Win

Box Score

Stone Ridge, NY - The men's basketball team played in their first road game of the season against the SUNY Ulster Senators on Tuesday evening.

The Panthers certainly felt the effects of playing on the road as the game was a lot of back and forth to begin with. Eventually the Panthers built a lead of around 15 points in the first half for themselves behind Alex Carrillo's (Akron, OH) 12 points. However, the Senators never let the Panthers run away with it, bringing their halftime deficit down to single digits.

Team captain Brett Richards (Kinderhook, NY) led the way scoring 14 of his 21 points in the second half while the other captain Clarence Claiborne, Jr. (Petersburg, VA) finished the game with 8 points.  Similar to the first half, the Panthers would build a double digit lead for themselves, but the Senators would start a mini-comeback for themselves each time.

Carrillo added 6 more points in the second half to finish with 18, while Jalon Munoz (Helotes, TX) scored 15 of the team's 75.  Bryce Hancock (Cohoes, NY) rounded out the starters with 8 points and freshman David Hudson III (Cincinnati, OH) had the only bench points for the Panthers with 5.

Despite it being a wire-to-wire victory by a score of 75-71, it was no walk in the park. "Ulster played hard," head coach Robert Coleman said after the game, "They hit some big shots to close the gap repeatedly.  They didn't let the game get out of hand. Our guys didn't let being on the road shake them.  We defended, made big plays, and hit free throws. Everything you need to win on the road."

The Panthers, now 3-0 on the season, will have a few days' rest before their next game on Saturday afternoon against Five Towns College.
